COMPANY
Our decision to dedicate ourselves to organic farming in Chile was made at a time when there was no government regulation in the leading markets, and each certifier had its own standards and requirements. Despite all the difficulties this created in exports, we were always convinced that the most important professional challenge involved producing pome fruit ecologically, without using synthetic chemical materials to fertilize the land, control weeds, and protect the orchard from disease.
First of all, we concentrated on using the principles of sustainable agriculture to improve the nutrition of the land and maintain the ecological balance of the natural environment as much as possible. Along with these objectives we started to realize we were on the same page with the concerns of consumers in different parts of the world. The growth in consumption and interest in organic fruit and food that grew over the years gave us an opportunity to increase our production and offer Chilean organic apples from the Bio-Bio region to the local market and the world, complying with the strictest quality standards of international markets.
We also considered the development of the local Chilean market to be extremely important. At ASICSA we have created programs with distributors both locally and in Santiago to provide Chilean consumers with better access to our fruit. We are also working in conjunction with the processing industry where we are delivering more apple tonnage to develop alternative markets.
Organic agriculture has enabled us to approach consumers around the world and let them know about the advantages of our land. More importantly, we have been able to contribute to rural development and economic progress for the families of the workers who share our mission.
